Lewis Gray “Lefty” Swain, 89, of Winston-Salem, N.C. (Midway), passed away on Wednesday July 15, 2026, at the Hospice Hinkle House in Lexington.

He was the son of the late George Kimel and Pauline Swain. Lewis was born in Kernersville, N.C. Lewis attended Kernersville High School and served in the U.S. Army from July 1960-July 1966. Lewis worked at Roadway Express for 31 years.

Lewis married Patsy Bunn in 1979. They had 46 years together. They both loved shagging and beach music. Lewis was a member of Oak Forest Methodist Church in Midway, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his brother, George (JoAnn) Swain, and sisters, Judy Atkins and JoAnn (Lee) Hall.

Lewis is survived by his wife of 46 years; his children, son, Travis Gray (Ashley) Swain, daughter, Deneen Swain Decost; wonderful 3-year-old grandson, Ezra Gray Swain; brother, Mike (Melissa) Swain; sisters, Brenda (Russell) Tyson and Beverly (Bud) Marshburn; brother-in-law, Harold (Kathy) Atkins; and also, his little dog, Rosee, which he loved dearly.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Lewis was an avid bass fisherman. He loved his boat and going fishing with friends. Lewis was a baseball player, spending many hours playing with Travis and living up to the nickname, “Lefty” Swain.

A service will be held on Saturday July 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Forest Methodist Church in Midway, N.C., with Rev. Dave Kelley officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
