Mary Elizabeth Davis "Lib" Hinkle passed away peacefully at her home on September 8, 2026, at the age of 101.

A private inurnment service will be held at a later date, and the family will receive friends at their respective homes.

Lib was born in Davidson County to Charles Lee Davis and Annie Rhodena Crater Davis. The youngest of seven children, she is proceeded in death by her siblings, Russell, Gray, Lonnie, and Marshall Davis, Louise Davis Wintzer, and Ruth Davis Fanslau. She graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1942. After serving as president of the student government, she attended Women’s College (now UNCG) and graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. After working in the office of Dr. Andrews in Lexington, she married her high school sweetheart, former Lexington mayor, Dwight Hinkle, and began a family while helping her husband in the family business; Conrad and Hinkle Food Market. Lib and Dwight were active members of the First United Church of Christ. In addition, Lib was a member of the Charity League, delivered Meals on Wheels, participated in several bridge clubs, and enjoyed playing tennis and traveling with her “nurse friends” as long as she was physically able.

Proceeding her in death were her parents, siblings, husband and granddaughter, Anna Samuels. She is survived by her children; Libby Samuels (Rick), Davis Hinkle (Kathy), Jim Hinkle and Lee Hinkle (Ashley), grandchildren; Carrie Samuels Sanders (Noah), Forrest Samuels (Erin Fletcher), Matthew Hinkle, and John Hinkle, great grandchildren; Savannah, Sadie, Sara, Charlotte Sanders.

The family would like to sincerely thank the amazing team of Alderwood, (formally Hospice) of Davidson County for their kind and compassionate care. A very special expression of gratitude is given to “Granny’s Girls” - the wonderful ladies who have cared for her with such love over the last years of her life, you are truly our angels on earth.
