Libby Cox

September 20, 1953 — April 9, 2015

After a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer, Libby Cox, departed this life on April 9, 2015, at the home of her sister, Jane, in Lexington, NC. She had recently moved to Lexington from Baltimore, MD., to spend her final days surrounded by her family. A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Linwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Erin Bowers and the Rev. Jay Bowers officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Libby was born September 20, 1953, in Davidson County, NC, and attended Central Davidson High School. She continued her education at Davidson County Community College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later obtained her brokerage license in Atlanta, GA. She was employed by Stifel, Nicholas Company in Baltimore. She loved her job and never stopped dreaming of returning to work even as her health deteriorated. During her years as a member of Towson United Methodist Church, she taught youth Sunday school classes, taught youth disciple and led the youth choir. She sang with the Joyful Noise Choir and participated in the Tower Chimes Handbell Choir. She had served on both the Board of Trustees, Pastor Parish Relations committee and the Administrative Board. She cherished her family times – particularly those shared with Lily, Eli, Martha Glenn and Helen. Rarely did she miss their birthdays and other special occasions even if it meant driving from Baltimore one day and returning the next. She had a deep appreciation for Civil War history. Among her favorite places to visit was the battlefield at Gettysburg which she did time and time again. Friends and family alike were aware of her love of baseball and her passion for the Baltimore Orioles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Lee and Moyde Fite Cox. Her survivors include sisters, Sara “Bill” Poovey of Mooristown, TN., Mary “Sis” (Joe) Bowers of Linwood and Jane Cox of Lexington; nieces and nephews, Laura and Brandon Stewart, Jay and Erin Bowers, Tom and Lisa Poovey, Steve and Annette Kenney; grand-nieces and nephews, Lily and Eli Stewart, Martha Glenn and Helen Bowers, Logan and Lance Kenney; several cousins; and many dear friends.
