Libby Leonard

Elizabeth Boger Leonard (Libby), went to be with her Lord on September 27, 2022, following a brief illness after her 95 ^th birthday which she celebrated with her family.

She was born into a Davie County dairy farming family on July 20, 1927.  Her parents were the late Burley Alvin Boger and Louise Potts Boger.  She graduated from Mocksville High School and Marshal School of Beauty Culture before marrying her husband of 66 years, J.W., and moving to Welcome, NC, where she lived the rest of her days.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse W. Leonard (J.W.), daughter Janie Leonard Bryan, brothers Ray Gwyn Boger and Edwin Boger, and sister Vada Gray Boger Beck.  Survivors include sons J. Rich Leonard (Whitney Cain) and Stan K. Leonard (Beth); sisters-in-law Ola Boger, Ivey Nell Boger, and Naomi Leonard Algood; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and scores of nieces and nephews.

Libby worked as a beautician in her home then later as an assistant teacher at Welcome Elementary School.  She was a faithful member of Center United Methodist Church in Welcome where she was active in her Sunday School class and in the United Methodist Women.  She was most known, however, for her love of cooking and gardening.  She was devoted to her grandchildren who loved coming for her home-cooked meals and tins filled with cookies.

She and her husband enjoyed travelling and going on mission trips but both of them loved gardening at home the most – her in her flower beds and J.W. in his vegetable garden.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Oct. 3, at 10 am in the Center Methodist Christian Fellowship Center.  A funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 11 am with the Rev. Mitch Wilson presiding.  Interment will be in the Center Methodist Church cemetery.
