Lila Byerly Childress

Lila Mae Byerly Childress, 90, of Haden Grove Church Road, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Lutheran Home of Salisbury. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tyro United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Rev. Randy Foster. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home. Mrs. Childress was born May 22, 1921, in Davidson County to James "Jim" William Byerly and Annie Catherine Leonard Byerly. She was retired from Burlington Furniture table plant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Marvin Childress, who died June 8, 2009; four brothers; five sisters; one great-grandchild, Ethan Moore; and a son-in-law, John Melchor. Surviving are daughters Carolyn Melchor of Salisbury, Glenda Greene and husband Frank of Sugar Hill, Ga., and Murray Sink and husband Jerry of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Willie Melchor and wife Kristen, Tony Melchor and wife Wendy, Mary Moore, Paul Greene and wife Margie, Michelle Ritchie, Rodney Sink and wife Cindy and Chris Sink and wife Carol; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, including her namesake, Makynzie Mae; and one sister, Sadie Byerly Hampton.
