Lois Dorsett Brown

August 12, 1924 — May 19, 2014

Lois Dorsett Brown, 89, of Holly Grove Road died unexpectedly on Monday May 19, 2014, at Thomasville Medical Center. A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at New Friendship United Church of Christ with the Revs. Butch Conrad, Alex Nance, and Carol Dyson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Mrs. Brown was born on August 12, 1924, in Davidson County, to the late Charles Alexander “Pete” Dorsett and Eva Isidora Leonard Dorsett. She was a beloved life-long resident of Davidson County. Most of her life was spent in the Holly Grove community. She attended Davis-Townsend School, and she loved attending reunions with her dear school friends. She was a charter member of New Friendship United Church of Christ. She was an active and faithful member as long as her health allowed. Thereafter, she attended Sunday services and Bible study as she was able. At one time, she also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army, the Lions Club, and CenterClair Rest Home. The New Testament book of 2 Timothy speaks of the “faith… in thy grandmother Lois…” To family, church members, and a large community of people, Mrs. Brown’s life was synonymous with faith and endless love. She showed her love through the delicious meals, breads and desserts she prepared for her family and many others. Until the last days of her life, she was sending cards and letters and making phone calls to friends and family far and wide. Earlier in her life, she had paid visits to and prepared food for her neighbors and the ill. On November 29, 1941, she married Cecil John Brown Sr., who died March 15, 1999. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are their three children, Carolyn (Greg) Hicks of Salisbury, Cecil “John” Brown Jr. (Mary Ann) and David (Jane) Brown, all of Lexington. She had seven grandchildren, Krista Hicks Monroe (Mark), Amy Hicks Smith (Terry), Jonathan Scott Brown (Erin), Heather Rae Brown Robertson (Malcolm), Ashley Lynn Brown Barnette (Magnum), Cody Crook, and Megan Everhart; nine great-grandchildren, Rob Monroe, Caroline Monroe, Corbin Smith, Abby Smith, Emma Brown, Camden Robertson, John Robertson, Jack Robertson, and Bella Grace Barnette; and a sister, Ruby Shoaf of Reedy Creek. She “went about doing good” always. Memorials may be made to New Friendship United Church of Christ Cemetery Fund, 307 Turner Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
