Lois Jean (Wall) Walters of Clemmons, NC died August 24, 2023 after a long and valiant struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Surry County, NC on December 29, 1934 to Admer Crosier Wall and Alice Arlene Ray Wall, the next to youngest of 10 children. Her childhood on the farm gave her the amazing cooking and canning skills she carried on through her life. Her canned stuffed peppers even placed 1st at the Dixie Classic Fair and her fresh coconut cake was second to none. Lois had an unshakable faith and attended Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church where she was a long standing pillar of the community, receiving the Outstanding Citizen Award in 2013. She regularly donated blood to the Red Cross - over 10 gallons donated! She would not hesitate to do the little things to put a smile on your face.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Mt. Olivet UMC with Rev. Karen Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, prior to the service.
Lois loved her family fiercely. At family gatherings, she supplied biscuits, green beans, pumpkin pie, and food galore. And if you didn't take a second helping, it definitely meant that the food wasn't good and she would take offense. She passed on her canning and baking skills to her children and grandchildren one string bean and biscuit at a time. Her recipes were never a secret as she shared them in many church and community recipe books. However, her biscuits never tasted quite as good when made by others. As she always had something sweet in the house, the great-grandchildren affectionately referred to her as "Mamaw Cookie".
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Robert Walters; brothers Ray Wall, Bill Wall, George Wall, and Alex Wall; sisters Nell Mounce, Viola Martin, Kate Martin, and Estelle Whitaker. She is survived by her brother Jack Wall of Davie County, NC; her four children: Judy Strickland (Edward) of Douglasville, GA, Robert Walters (Dana) of Lexington, NC, Jeffrey Walters (Tina) of Lexington, NC, and Beth Kight (Toney) of Clemmons, NC; seven grandchildren: Ali Williams (Josh) of Lexington, NC, Benjamin Strickland (Michelle) of Auckland, New Zealand, Erin Strickland of Houston, TX, Jonathan Kight (Jessica) of Clemmons, NC, Stephen Kight of Clemmons, NC, Sawyer Walters (Amanda) of Fayetteville, AR, and Sloan Walters of Chapel Hill, NC; and nine great-grandchildren.
