Lokeel Mabe Whelpley

Lokeel Vern (Mabe) Whelpley, 94, of Lexington, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in the chapel at Davidson Funeral Home in Winston-Salem with Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Woodland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM, prior to the funeral service.

A native of Forsyth County, she was born on February 3, 1932, to the late Uriel Watson “U.W.” Mabe and the late Jennie Covington Mabe. She spent many years employed by RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, After leaving RJ Reynolds, Lokeel worked as a manager at Pick-N-Pay in Yadkinville until her retirement. She was a proud and faithful member of Maplewood Baptist Church in Yadkinville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Leroy Whelpley; her son, Ricky Lee Hinshaw; and her son-in-law, Donald Lemmings.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dean Blalock (Susan); daughters, Gail Lemmings and Karen Sanford (Mark); sister, Chappell Hunter; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Honor Instead and Davidson County Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of their mother.
