Lola Slaydon Smith

January 7, 1928 — December 4, 2015

Lola Slaydon Smith, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother sister and friend and called Bambi by some, died Friday night December 4, 2015 at her home at the age of 87. She had been in declining health for some time. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday December 9, 2015 at Reeds Baptist Church, where she was a member with Revs. Henry Watterson and Brian Sink. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday night. Lola was born in Surry County January 7, 1928 to William Henry Slaydon and Cinnie Myrtle Creed Slaydon. At six weeks old, her family moved to Davidson county, whre she would attend Reeds School, help her mother with housework and on the family farm. Lola was a active member of Reeds Baptist Church former Sunday school teacher and on the bereavement food team. Lola was a Godly woman who was a Christian example to her family and all who knew her, and was always there when someone needed a helping hand. She was a homemaker and also a dedicated help to her husband in their business, Wel-Done Products. Lola also enjoyed quilting and gardening and always shared the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Lola will forever be remembered for her light rolls, chicken pie, milkshakes, silver bell candies and her kind and giving heart. Lola was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 71 years, Weldon Smith who died October 9, 2015; daughter, Myra Leonard; grandson, Tim B. Grubb; sisters, Ethel Walser (Claude), Birdie Blankenship (Andrew) and Ruby Parnell; brother, William Slaydon (Elfriede). Lola is survived by five children, Joyce Grubb (Foy), Junie Smith (Reta), Laura Hemphill (Rick), Lesia Reudelhuber (George), David Smith (Kim), son-in-law, Max Leonard all of Lexington; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer Rosecrans (Ben), Tim’s widow, Cathy, Michael Leonard (Shelly), Matthew Leonard, Meredith Pope, Chrissy Tribley (Tom), Angie Hutchins (Barry), Karrie Sink (Mark), Robert Weldon (Heather), Brian Sink (Christy), Rusty Sink (Rebecca), Spencer Reudelhuber (special friend, Madison), Auston Reudelhuber (Rachel), Amanda Elmore, Jeb Alexander Smith (special friend, Hailee), and Mattie Smith (special friend Kevin); 26 great-grandchildren, Alex Grubb, Mackenzie Hall, Keaton Turrentine, Salem Turrentine, Janeice Leonard, Brianna Leonard, Thomas Leonard, Kristen Pope, Kip Pope, Noah Tribley, Sierra Hutchins, Monica Hutchins, Sarah Sink, Josh Sink, Lauryn Sink, Morrigan Hively, Mason Weldon Hatfield Smith, Caleb Sink, Michael Sink, Darren Sink, Jenna Sink, Kaitlyn Sink, Wyatte Weldon Sink, Addie Reudelhuber, Kyler Elmore, Korbin Elmore; special niece and spouse, Twyla and Kirby Sechrist; sisters, Kathleen Westmoreland (Chester deceased) and Aileen Hartman (Bill deceased) both of Lexington.
