Lonnie Banks Koonts

April 23, 1927 — September 8, 2007

Lonnie Banks Koonts, 80, of Cloverdale Road, died Saturday morning, Sept. 8, 2007, at his home. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Second Reformed United Church of Christ, where he was a member, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Moore. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with Masonic Graveside Rites. Mr. Koonts was born April 23, 1927, in Davidson County to Lonnie Fairbanks Koonts and Iva Weaver Koonts. He retired as supervisor of quality control at Duracell. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Lexington Memorial Lodge No. 473 and The Scottish Rite. Mr. Koonts was also a past president of the Eagle Coin Club, past member of the Lexington Civitan Club, and at his church he taught Sunday school for 52 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Thomason Koonts. Surviving are his daughters, Londa Koonts Pickett and her husband, Wendell, of Linwood and Elizabeth Koonts Harrell of Lexington; one brother, Charles Koonts of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Libby Kelly of Weaverville, Deann Webster and her husband, Junior, of Lexington and Gail Lewis of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Wende Rummage and her husband, Robby, Thomas Pickett, Joshua Harrell and Ellen Harrell, all of Lexington; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Kailyn Rummage, both of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and at other times at the home on Cloverdale Road. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293, or to Second Reformed United Church of Christ, 330 N. Church St., Lexington, NC 27292.
