Lorene Benfield

Lorene Marie Martin Benfield, 90, of Fairview Drive, Lexington NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 11, 2009 at Lexington Health Care. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 14 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverend Paul Titus and the Reverend Dr. Lee Zehmer officiating. A graveside burial service will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Benfield was born on January 11, 1919 in Athens, Tennessee to William Eugene Martin and Rose Snider Martin. Mrs. Benfield was a charter member of Fifth Street Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She was a longtime member of First Alliance Church, where she had been a member of the choir, Sunday School teacher, Bible school coordinator, Deaconess, youth fellowship leader, and role model for numerous youths. She was a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her husband, Carl Fletcher Benfield, preceded her in death on June 26, 2000. Her brother, Ronald Martin, of Van Nuys, California. also preceded her in death. She is survived by: her son, Rick W. Benfield of Lexington; her daughters, Beckey Griffith and husband Jeff, of Lexington, and Sandy Riddle and husband, Earl, of Salisbury; her grandchildren, Andy Benfield and wife, Kelli, of Midway, and Cherlene Benfield Stout, and husband, Matt, of Midway; Chad Griffith and wife, Caroline, of Raleigh and Clint Riddle of Salisbury; and her great grandchildren, Ethan Stout, Abby Stout, and Isabel Benfield. The family would like to express their gratitude to her devoted caregivers: Joyce May, Ashley Graves, Sarah May, Jane Cox, Brenda Fortner, and Betty Cashatt. A special thanks is extended to Mrs. Benfield's neighbors, Lynn, Dan, and Russell Smith. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 PM Monday, December 14, prior to the funeral service at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Beckey Griffith, 111 Arrowhead Circle, Lexington NC. Memorials may be made to First Alliance Church, 424 Ninth Street, Lexington NC 27295 or to the American Heart Association, 202 Centreport Dr., Suite 100, Greensboro, NC 27409. The family would like to thank the staffs of Lexington Memorial Hospital and Lexington Health Care for their excellent care and compassionate support. The family appreciates the diligence and dedication of Dr. Victor Farrah and his staff.
