Loretta Sharpe Parks

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Loretta S. Parks, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Loretta peacefully departed this world on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Hinkle House in Lexington, NC surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on April 4, 1940, in Lexington, NC, Loretta lived a life characterized by love, devotion and dedication. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Paul Theodore Sharpe and Mary Frank Sharpe, who instilled values that she carried throughout her life; first husband, James D Parks; sister; Cora Mae Mock, brothers in law; Thomas Mock, and Arnold (Connie) Swicegood; sister-in-law, Veedee Talbert, her husband, Edward Talbert; and many other beloved relatives.

Loretta dedicated her professional life to serving as an office manager at Piedmont Women’s Health Care and other local doctors. Her commitment and diligence left a lasting impact on both her colleagues and the community she served with unwavering dedication. She was the former Mrs. Senior Davidson County and Ms. Senior North Carolina, competing for Ms. Senior America in 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Family was the cornerstone of Loretta’s life.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Earl Hanes; son, Michael “Mike” Parks and her cherished sister, Billie Ruth Swicegood, both of whom were by her side through life’s many joys and challenges. Loretta’s legacy will also live on through her beloved grandson, Chase Parks, who brought immeasurable happiness to her later years; niece, Lynne Mock Michael; nephews, Steve Mock (Teresa), Marc Swicegood (Lynnette), Wayne Talbert, Richard Talbert, Keith Talbert, and their families.

In addition to her family bonds, Loretta was a cornerstone in her community, known for her kindness, wisdom, and willingness to lend a helping hand. She was an avid bowler, gardener, and cook. She was very active in her church, singing in the choir and was the church secretary for many years. She loved to sing, dance, and entertain, perform for shut ins and in hundreds of shows and events across the country. She cherished playing catch and shooting hoops with son and grandson.

A Celebration of Loretta’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Churchland Baptist Church with Pastor Don Clement officiating services.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, June 26, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Loretta’s memory to Churchland Baptist Church, Brookdale Assisted Living in Lexington, or Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, reflecting her generous spirit and lifelong commitment to supporting others.

Loretta touched the hearts of many and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.
