Loretta Lanning Rainey

March 4, 1934 — July 16, 2022

Loretta Lanning Rainey, 88 of Lexington, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Alston Brook Nursing Home in Lexington.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Rainey officiating. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/davidson.funeralhome.com A private burial will follow.

Mrs. Rainey was born March 4, 1934, in Davidson County, to Joe Grady Lanning and Julie Cross Lanning. Loretta was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist.  She retired from National Wholesale where she was known to be called ‘Chief’. She loved to travel, go to the beach and mountains, was a hard worker, but most of all she was a big Elvis fan.  Her passion was her faith, church, family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lorretta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, who will be missed by all. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, M.L. “Bo” Rainey who died February 2, 2007; her first husband, Leroy Prevette; her granddaughter, Jaclyn Hunt; brothers, Calvin and Ralph Lanning; and sister, Doris Morgan.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Sharon Hunt of Lexington; sons, Steve Rainey and wife Leslie of Kernersville, and Richard Rainey of Greensboro; brother, Norman Grady “Buck” Lanning of Lexington and wife Mary. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Julie Hunt, Jonathan Hunt, Emily Hunt Worth and husband Rob, Salem Rainey Metzger and husband Jay, Joseph Rainey and wife Hannah; and great-grandchildren, Chance James, Griffen Metzger, Sloan Metzger, and Hazel Rainey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 902 South Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
