Louise Gibson

Louise Darr Koontz Gibson, 73, of Peachtree Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at her home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Second United Church of Christ, where she was a member, by the Rev. Jerry Moore. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Gibson was born in Davidson County on Sept. 27, 1933, to John V. Darr and Thelma Jennings Darr. She retired from Davidson County government offices. At her church she served as a deacon, an elder and member of the Friendship Class, past president of the Consistory, an elder emeritus 2005 and president of the Women's Guild, and also served as a leader of the Rebecca Circle and served on various church committees. She was a past Sunday school teacher and a choir member. She was the recipient of the Pearle P. Leonard Award for Christian Service. She served on the Odell Leonard Scholarship Board and the Centerclair Nursing Home Board. She was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Gibson served her community in various civic organizations, including a past member of the Women's Club and the Professional Business Women Association. She was preceded in death by her first husband, G.F. Koontz; a daughter, Mara Sue Koontz; her second husband, Howard Eugene Gibson; and a brother, John J. Darr. Surviving are one daughter, Deborah Ann Koontz of Atlanta, Ga.; one stepson, Thomas "Butch" Gibson and his wife, Judy, of Lexington; one stepgrandchild, Jenny Gibson Mullins; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Josie Mullins The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Second United Church of Christ General Fund or the A. Odell Leonard Scholarship Fund, 330 N. Church St., Lexington, NC 27292.
