Louise Younts Sink

July 15, 1931 — May 31, 2017

Helen Louise “Easie” Younts Sink passed away on May 31, 2017 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. Louise was born in Lexington, NC on July 15, 1931 to Walter Odell and Helen Craver Younts.  She graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1949 and from City Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.  On February 22, 1953 she married her high school sweetheart,  Robert “Bob” Wade Sink, Jr. and moved to New Jersey where he was stationed at Fort Monmouth.  Louise’s nursing career spanned over 40 years in hospital and office nursing.  She was House Supervisor at Lexington Memorial Hospital after returning from New Jersey in 1954.  In 1956 she went to work for Dr. Robert A. Team and helped him care for patients over 37 years.  Her patients loved her and she and Dr. Bob made quite a team!  After retirement, Louise continued in nursing by volunteering at Davidson County Medical Ministries and the Life Center of Davidson County where she served on the board and whenever they needed a nurse.  She was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church and served on both the Outreach and Endowment Committees.  Louise was often the “head cook” for the Lutheran Disaster Ministry team and provided meals for the volunteers in Iowa, West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia and many places in North Carolina.  She was an active member in the Mary Circle and worked faithfully at the Good Shepherd’s clothes closet.  In 2010, Louise was recognized as the Advance Nursing magazine’s “Most Memorable Mentor” in recognition of her dedication to the nursing profession.  Louise volunteered for Centerclair and served on the Board of United Church Homes.  She had over 3000 volunteer hours for Rex Hospital in Raleigh where she faithfully knitted baby caps for their newest and smallest patients. Louise is survived by her husband Bob Sink, daughter Robin Deal (Craig), grandchildren Adam Deal (Kelly), Sarah Huskey (Brent), Erin and Lindsay Johnston, great grandchildren Aubrey Kathryn and Madelyn Louise Deal and Connor Robert Huskey, close cousin Connie Beck Dewees and brother-in-law Doug Sink (Barbara). In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her sister Elaine and daughter Lyn Sink Johnston. Funeral service for Louise will be at the First Lutheran Church on Sunday, June 4, 2017 with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating.            Family will receive friends from 2 to 3:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall prior to the service.
