Lucy Starr

December 16, 1925 — April 9, 2020

Lucy Payne Starr, 94, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Grayson Creek Assisted Living in Welcome, NC; she formerly resided at Hill St. in Lexington for over 60 years. A private graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Doug McGee with a celebration of life to be held at a future date. Mrs. Starr was a retired housewife and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. "Mamaw" was very loved and will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She was a longtime member of Arrington Heights Free Will Baptist Church. Born on December 16, 1925 in Swain County, NC, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ramoth Gilead Payne and Dora Juletta Stanford Payne. Also preceding her in death were her husband, William Thomas Starr; brothers Grady Payne, Roy Payne, Estes Payne, Fessie Payne, Lorenza Payne, and Dillard Payne; sisters Eva Queen, Vadie Queen, and Thelma Payne. Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Maxon (Joe) of Denver, NC; two sons, Gary Starr (Becky) of Raleigh, NC and Wesley Starr (Stephanie) of Selma, NC; eight grandchildren, Joey Maxon, Erin Maxon Dobbs, Lindsay Maxon Flynn, Dr. Rebecca Starr Seal, Dr. Matthew Starr, Brynn Starr Rogers, Dakota Starr, and Hunter Starr; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Grayson Creek and Trellis Supportive Care for their loving care and assistance.
