Luther Smith

Luther Edison Smith, age 80, of Spruce Street, Lexington, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 in Forsyth Medical Center after a period of declining health. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray N. Howell IV officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Smith was born November 7, 1929 in Davidson County to James Albert Smith and Mary Belle Morrison Smith. A member of Second Presbyterian Church, he was employed with Piedmont Candy Co for 31 years and retired from Lexington Furniture Co after 11 years of service. He retired from the National Guard after 20 years of service. He was preceded in death by his four brothers and four sisters. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Wilma McBride Smith of the home; two sons, Jerry Smith and wife, Becky of Churchland, and Randy Smith and wife, Donna of Midway; his grandsons, Jason Smith, Jansen Smith, his granddaughter, Meghan Smith and boyfriend, Justin Koonts; and a sister, Mary Ann Westbrook and husband, Dan of Lexington The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
