Luther Gray Tucker, 79, of Franklin Lane, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at 9:20 p.m. at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel, led by the Rev. Bill Norris. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the National Cemetery in Salisbury with military graveside rites by the Memorial Honor Guard. Mr. Tucker was born Dec. 11, 1927, in Forsyth County to John Wesley Tucker and Gertrude Poe Tucker. He was a truck driver for Roadway. He also served in the Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Ruby Shook and Pauline Disher. Surviving are: his mother; two sons, Barry Tucker of Clemmons and Darren Tucker and his wife, Tina, of Welcome; a daughter, Beverly Shinault and her husband, Larry, of Germanton; three grandchildren, Larry Shinault Jr., Brandi Peoples and Justin Tucker; three great-grandchildren, Wesley Shinault, Aby Shinault and Logan Koontz; and two brothers, William Tucker of Winston-Salem and Jimmy Tucker of Yadkinville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel, and other times at the home of Darren Tucker, 603 Cecil Road, Welcome. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
