Marvin Lee (M.L.) Kearns, Jr., 87 of Old Linwood Road, Lexington, died Monday morning, April 20, 2009 at Lexington Health Care after a prolonged illness. A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Center Hill Baptist Church on Hwy 8 where he was a member for 71 years. Following the burial, a Celebration of Life Service will be held in the sanctuary and the family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
Mr. Kearns was born on March 13, 1922 in Davidson County to Marvin Lee Kearns and Ida Victoria Hedrick Kearns. He retired from Gordon Veneer after 46 years as plant manager. At Center Hill Baptist Church he served in many positions including various committees, was a Deacon of the church and was a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Gurney Kearns, Ralph Kearns and Henry Kearns; his sisters, Gladys Kearns Morris, Mary Kearns Smith and Zola Kearns Beck.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Ida Virginia Cody Kearns of the home and daughter, Tamara Kearns Regan and husband Howard of High Point and one grandson Jonathan Lee Regan and wife Leslie Hill Regan of High Point. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
The body will be at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington after 2:00 PM on Tuesday for anyone who wishes to view Mr. Kearns.
