Madeline Rea Palmer

October 28, 1929 — February 21, 2025

Madeline Rea Wagner Palmer, formerly of Lexington, NC and a member of the Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community in Thomasville, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the age of 95, while surrounded by her loving family. Her long and fulfilling life was marked by kindness, wisdom, unwavering dedication, and service to those she loved.

Madeline was born on Monday, October 28, 1929, in Midway North Carolina to Vada Fay Long Wagner and Jesse Hoyle Wagner. Madeline grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and the values that would guide her throughout her life. Madeline was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Lexington, where she spent countless hours in volunteer service. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Johnnie Leonard Palmer, sisters, Lea Nan Wagner and Elizabeth Wagner Byerly and her husband Bill Byerly; brother, Julian Franklin Wagner; nephew, Brooks Graham Byerly; a great nephew, Blake Palmer Byerly.

Madeline is survived by a niece, Lisa Byerly Charbonneau and her husband, Dr. John Charbonneau; their children, great niece Madeline (Richard) Acorn, and children Decker, Riggins and Shaw, and great nephew, Jake Byerly Charbonneau; niece, Dr. Susan Lloyd Byerly and great nephew, Dr. Benjamin Lloyd Byerly, wife Ashlynn and their children, Brooke and Caroline Byerly. Her presence at Piedmont Crossing brought Madeline a source of joy and lasting friendships.

In honor of Madeline's life, a memorial service is planned for Sunday, February 23rd at 1:30 pm at Unity Place, Piedmont Crossing 100 Hedrick Dr. Thomasville, NC. The Rev. Bob Symanski officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Davidson County by visiting their website at hospiceofdavidson.org and selecting "give." The family of Madeline would also like to express their heartfelt thanks to all her caregivers at Piedmont Crossing and Hinkle Hospice House for their compassion and support during this time. Madeline W Palmer will always be remembered for the love she shared and the legacy she leaves behind.
