Fannie Mae Hege Koonts age 86 of Lexington passed away Thursday May 5, 2016 at Silas Creek Rehabilitation Center in Winston Salem. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel Tuesday from 6-8 pm . A graveside service will be 11:00 am Wednesday May 11, 2016 at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Rick Williamson. Mrs. Koonts was born January 30, 1930 in Davidson County to David Earl Hege and Maggie DeLapp Hege. She was employed with Hanes Knitting for over 20 years and retired from Mid-State Tile. Mae was devoted to her church , Trinity United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for over 30 years. She reached out to family and community to help in ways which may never be known to others. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 38 years Jacob Webster “Shorty”Koonts. Surviving are her sister, Grace Hege Nifong (Roy) of Winston Salem. Her nieces: Susan Nifong Williamson (Rev. Rick) of Winston Salem and Marianne Nifong Raker (Gwyn) of Roswell, Georgia. Stepchildren: Stephen Webster Koonts and Robert Stanley Koonts of Winston Salem and Betty Caroll Koonts Ross of Cheaspeake, Virginia. Great –Nieces Andrea Williamson and Jennifer Williamson Ignasiak of Winston Salem and Caroline Raker Caravella and Great Nephew, Bryan David Raker both of Atlanta, Georgia. The family would like to thank the Sticht Center Staff at WFUBMC for their care and compassion given to Aunt Mae during her illness.
