Magdalene Hunt Fritts, 89, of Deaton Young Road, died Monday, June 7, 2010, at Lexington Health Care following several months of declining health.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Hedrick’s Grove Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with the Rev. William Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Mrs. Fritts was born April 18, 1921, in Davidson County, to Arthur Anderson Hunt and Mary Gentry Hunt. She was the organist at her church for 46 years. When not playing for church, she used her talents volunteering at Lexington Health Care, Centerclair and Britthaven Nursing facilities. She volunteered 8 to 10 hours each week dividing her time within a three day period at these facilities playing for the enjoyment of the residents. For her years of volunteering at the health care facilities, Mrs. Fritts was honored in 1985 when the North Carolina Health Care Facilities awarded her with the Adult Volunteer of the Year Award, a plaque in the shape of the North Carolina map. The award was registered in the Congressional Record in 1986 by Congressman Howard Coble. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Aaron Fritts; a daughter, Mary Louise Fritts; a brother, Arthur Anderson Hunt; and sisters, Ila Kepley, Frances English and Elma Talbert.
Surviving are several special nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
