Major (Ret.) Richard Patrick Carlisle, USMC , 73, of Becks Church Road, died Wednesday at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church, where he was a member, with Father Tom King and Chaplain Robin Sides officiating with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home. Major Carlisle was born April 24, 1937, in Washington County, Pa., to Gus Carlisle and Julia Chernyski Carlisle. He was retired after serving 25 years in the U.S. Marine Corp, a member of VFW Post 3074, and American Legion Post 8. He earned a business degree from Catawba College and was retired from his second career after 16 years at EPES Transport. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Patricia Carlisle and a cousin Bill Sheka. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Dian Jackson Carlisle of the home; daughters, Patti Jo Harris and husband, Dale, Marcia Carlisle, both of Virginia, and Jill Carlisle of Massachusetts; grandchildren, Stephen Woodard, Scotty Perkins, Patrick Perkins, MaryBeth Bowling and husband, David, and Cameron Carlisle; stepchildren, Bradley Hart and girlfriend, Paula, Brandi Chalus and husband, Mike, and John Rippel and girlfriend, Patti, all of Pennsylvania; two stepgrandchildren, Michael Chalus and Peyton Chalus; brother, Jack Carlisle of Virginia; sister, Laura Zuraw and husband, Ed, of Virgina; niece and nephew, Lisa Zuraw and Eddie Zuraw; great-niece, Julia Fritz; cousins, Dorothy Fuzzoni, Jimmy Fuzzoni; and his aunt Nell Roupe.
