Margaret 'Margot' Blackstone Walser

Margaret “Margot” Blackstone Walser, a cherished member of the Lexington, North Carolina community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025. She was born on Tuesday, November 6, 1934, and lived a life marked by love, generosity, service, and kindness to others.

A lifelong resident of Lexington, Margot was known for her vibrant spirit and active involvement in the community. She generously gave her time and talents to numerous local organizations, including the Charity League, the Lexington Gardening Club, the City Club (where she served on the Board), and Davidson Medical Ministries, where she was a member of the Executive Board. She was a member of the Lexington Investment Club and served on the Lexington Hospital Board. She was also a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Margot had a special compassion for animals, often taking in stray or abandoned pets and offering them love and a place to call home. She found great joy in her flower gardens, reflecting her lifelong appreciation for nature’s beauty. She also loved playing Mah Jong and Bridge with her friends, embracing the fellowship and fun they brought into her life. She adored her Quail Ridge Community and so appreciated how kind each neighbor was to her. Known for her gentle presence and thoughtful nature, Margot touched the lives of many with her kindness.

Above all, family was Margot’s greatest joy. She often expressed how full and blessed her life was, a truth she demonstrated daily to her children and grandchildren. To her beloved grandchildren, she was affectionately known as “Mimi,” a title she held with pride and deep affection.

She is survived by her son, Vance Walser (Joy Smith) of Lexington, and her daughter, Carolyn Johnson (Earl III) of Raleigh. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Earl Johnson IV, Sydney Beasley, and Addie Walser; and her great-grandchildren: Blair Beasley, Layne Johnson, Isabel Beasley, and Earl Johnson V. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Tenhoopen.

Margot was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Dr. Basil Brown Gordon Blackstone and Margaret Swift Patterson Walser.

Her family will celebrate Margot at a later date at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, with inurnment to follow.

Margot’s warmth, grace, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
