Margie Louise Vance Swicegood passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. She was 104 years old.

Margie was born to Joseph Vance and Ethel Glass Vance on April 28, 1922, in Benton County, Indiana. She worked for many years at Mallory Battery in the Zinc Department. Margie enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was an avid sports fan who faithfully supported the Atlanta Braves, Duke athletics, and the Chicago White Sox. She especially loved spending time with her family and treasured watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow.

Margie’s love story with her husband, Grady Swicegood, began during World War II when the two met while traveling on a train. A correspondence soon followed, and through handwritten letters they grew close despite the distance between them. Grady proposed to Margie by letter, and she joyfully accepted in return. The two were married soon after, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and family.
