Marie Hill Whicker Lanier age 70 of Midway passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a 10 month hard fought battle with lung cancer. A native of Davidson County, Mrs. Whicker-Lanier was predeceased by her husband G. Wayne Whicker; her parents, Russell and Elsie Hill; her siblings, Betty Hill Hege, Clarence Hill, Ralph Hill and Leo Hill.
Mrs. Whicker-Lanier is survived by her daughter, Michelle Whicker Price and her husband, Glenn of Cary; two grandchildren, Mitchell Wayne (16) and Jackson Dean (11); two brothers, Edwin Hill and Archie Hill, his wife Dixie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie was a retired realtor, caring landlord, a previous USTA tennis team captain and an artist as well as being a dedicated wife and mother. She was a strong and independent woman who could tackle most any household issue, loved talking politics, enjoyed lively discussions of all kinds and loved to cook for her family.
Her two grandsons will carry on her legacy; Mitchell inherited her artistic abilities and loves to draw; Jackson inherited her sharp intellect and interest to discuss a variety of topics.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, August 22, 2014 at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Canaan United Methodist Church in Midway with Pastor Doug Miller officiating. Burial will be at Wallburg Baptist Church following the services.
