Marie Kepley Hilliard, 74, of Price Road, died Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington after declining health of four years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 27 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. William Sowers and Preacher Clyde Akers. Burial will follow at Hedrick’s Grove Reformed United Church of Christ Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son on Mill Stream Lane, Lexington.
Mrs. Hilliard was born November 3, 1938 in Davidson County. She was married to Nathan Goodwin Hilliard an Army career veteran who died December 3, 1989. Until Nathan’s retirement, they traveled around the world including living in Germany and Hawaii. During this period, Marie volunteered for the Red Cross in different parts of the world.. After returning to Lexington, Marie worked in long term care facilities as a nurse and would later retire from Burlington Industries-Denton plant. She loved to travel especially to Carolina Beach. Her husband, Nathan, preceded her in death on December 3, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Ila Hunt Kepley, and an infant son, Michael Todd Hilliard.
She is survived by her son, N. Wayne Hilliard and wife, Lisa, of Lexington; her granddaughter, who was her pride and joy, Maria Jane Hilliard; her sisters, Linda Morrison and Larry, Martha Hill, and Jean Kepley, all of Lexington; her nephews, David Trivette and wife, Tamara, of Churchland, and Johnny Callahan of Lexington; her nieces, Darnell Nance and husband, Robert, and Sylvia Bull and husband, Red, both of Southmont, and Vickie Hedrick and husband, Ricky, of Lexington; her great nieces, Priscilla Cole, Joy Tartaglia and husband, Mickey, Teresa Johnson and husband, Randall, Crystal Hedrick, and Kierra Oles.
