Marie Ward Michael

November 24, 1924 — July 7, 2014

Marie Ward Michael passed away, Monday, July 07, 2014, at her home in Lexington. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Macedonia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Blanton officiating. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Michael was born November 24, 1924, on a dairy farm in Davidson County to Frank and Ester Hedrick Ward. She attended public school in Denton and moved to Lexington after graduation to pursue her secretarial career. Marie was the secretary of Central Davidson High School for 35 years until retiring in 1992. She was very active at Macedonia United Methodist Church, serving on several committees, boards and as church treasurer for 46 years. Marie was also involved in the community serving on various civic organizations, including as an honorary lifetime board members of the Lexington Area Crime Stoppers. She was most proud of her Scholastic Scholarship at Catawba College for students from Davidson County. In 1946 Marie married Chester A. “June” Michael Jr. who preceded her in death on January 15, 1988. Also preceding her in death in addition to her parents were sisters, Neaty Doughterty and Willa Veigh Thomas; and her oldest brother, Franklin Ward. Surviving are sons, Chester A. “Junie” Michael III (Teresa) of Mooresville, and Timothy Ward Michael (Lisa) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Joy, Lindsey and Jordan Michael; brothers, Charles Ward of Cashiers, Ralph Ward (Margie) of Lexington, and Wayne Ward (Irene) of Monroe. Marie had two very special family friends, Bob and Michelle Dunning and their family, who surrounded her with love and care and made it possible for her to stay at her home the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church, Building Fund, P.O.
