Marie Blackburn Rhodes

Dorothy Marie Blackburn Rhodes of Lexington, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 at Hinkle Hospice House.   The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Tuesday (October 5, 2010) at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church, 1308 S. Main Street, Lexington, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00pm.  Private burial will be held at Lexington City Cemetery.   Marie was born on January 21, 1932 in Forsyth County to Harmon and Violet Byrd Blackburn.  She was a charter member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church.  Marie was a licensed cosmetologist, and for many years owned and operated “The Hair Den.” She was preceded in death by a beloved sister, Peggy Washburn Moorhead.   Marie is survived by her devoted husband of more than 60 years, E. Grady Rhodes, Jr; her children, Sherry Rhodes Craver and husband Bentley, Teresa Rhodes Sommers and husband Rick, and Mitchell Grady Rhodes; three grandchildren, Richard Rhodes Sommers, Allie Marie Craver, and Joseph Bentley Craver, Jr.; her loving sister, Bettie Washburn Barber; and many nieces and nephews.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G.
