Marie Poag Swicegood, 72 of Swicegood Road, Linwood passed away Sunday evening at her home. Mrs. Swicegood was born December 9, 1934 in Davidson County to Joe Poag and Notie Gobble Poag. She was a 1953 graduate of Churchland School. She was member of Tyro United Methodist Church where she was active until her illness in the Faith, Hope, and Love Sunday School Class, and in the Women of Hope Circle. Mrs. Swicegood worked for 13 years with the Developmental Center with Lexington City Schools as an assistant Teacher and was a member of the West Davidson Senior Moments Group. Mrs. Swicegood was preceded in death by her husband Donald Ray Swicegood who died July 4th, 1996. Mrs. Swicegood is survived by two sons Barry Swicegood and wife Julie of Linwood, and Nelson Swicegood and wife Beth of Lexington; a daughter Theresa Athay and husband Lee of Linwood; a brother Tommy Poag and wife Evie Ann of Lexington, five sisters Evelyn Miller, Dot Stiller, Joanne Forrest and husband James, and Sue Hillard and husband Jimmy all of Lexington, and Mary Long of Salisbury. She is also survived by six grandchildren Tyler Swicegood, Chasity Watts, Melia Swicegood, Trevor Swicegood, Miranda Athay and Melinda Athay. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at Tyro United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, PO Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293.
