Marilyn (Peggy) Brumfield Keenan, April 4, 1938 – October 13, 2024, aged 86 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, surrounded by her family.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Faith Church Cemetery, with Pastor Michael Gates officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 prior to the service, in the cemetery.
Peggy was born in Cabell County, WV, to the late Myrtle Walden Hall and Carl Brumfield, and grew up in Hamlin, West Virgina.
She was raised in her grandparents’ home, Joe and Juna Walden, whom she called Mommie and Daddy and was raised with three uncles and two aunts that she considered her brothers and sisters, Wibb, Bobby and Billy Walden, and Rosa Cava.
Peggy lived in Midway since 1990 and was a member of Faith Church which she attended until she was no longer able due to dementia.
She loved watching her grandkids play sports and going back to WV to visit her family. Walking was also a favorite activity and was matched only by her love for dancing.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Patrick Keenan; and her grandson, JP Keenan.
Peggy is survived by her two sons, John P. Keenan Jr. (Sherry), and David M Keenan; two granddaughters, Brandy K. Larking (Terry), and Madison Keenan; seven grandchildren, Keenan, Ronan, Oran, and Penelope; and one aunt whom she considered her sister, Linda Mahaffey.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to Hospice of Davidson County who went above and beyond caring for Peggy and treating them all as their own family, 200 Hospice Way Lexington, NC 27292.
Donations are also welcomed to Faith Church of Midway, which she held specially in her heart along with those who attended with her, 1078 Gumtree Rd. Winston Salem, NC 27107.
