Mark Stamey Craver

December 30, 1953 — May 29, 2023

On May 29th, Mark Stamey Craver, age 69, passed away at his home on Welcome-Arcadia Road, Lexington, NC.  Mark was born December 30, 1953, to Luther S. Craver and Katherine (Kitty) Sizemore Craver.  His parents are deceased, but he is survived by his sister, Patricia (Penny) Craver-Beck (Danny), his nephew, Dr. Bryan Abernethy (Tenesha) of New Bern, his grand-nephew, Luke Abernethy, special cousins, Pat, Joe, Ned and Dan Craver, Steve, Debbie, and Melanie Craver-Simons and life-long friend, Charles Younts.

Mark was graduated from North Davidson High School, class of 1972, where he played football and baseball. After graduation he attended Lees McRae College.  He began his construction work with L.S. Craver Construction and later moved his career to heavy equipment operations with Carolina Excavators, H&C Construction, Paul Howard Construction and Kokosing Construction.  Eventually Mark began employment for Harbert International and worked at various worldwide locations include Puerto Rico and Port Said, Egypt. Also, while working with Harbert, he became the Superintendent of Utilities in Israel where the company built an Air Force base, and the Superintendent of Utilities in Saudi Arabia while installing a water system from the Red Sea to Jeddah.

Although Mark was privileged to have lived and worked all over the world, he always considered Reedy Creek/Arcadia his home.  After retirement all his time was spent enjoying the family farm which has been in his family for six generations.  Nothing meant more than family.

There will be a memorial service on June 2 at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church at 5pm.  Visitation will be from 4-5pm in the church sanctuary.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Olivet Methodist Church at 1082 Community Road, Lexington, NC 27295 or to Davidson County Hospice at 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.

Sincere appreciations to Patricia Craver, Verna Nichols, Dan Craver, and Lyle Wagner for making Mark’s final days as comfortable as possible.  Special thanks to Dr. Jason Jones and Stacy Hill, NP, for all their medical care and concerns for Mark’s quality of life.
