Marlet Simmons Goodrum

Marlet Simmons Goodrum, 75, of Billy Smith Road, died Friday, October 11, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. A memorial service will be held at 2pm Monday, October 14 at Second Reformed United Church of Christ, by the Rev. Jim Luck. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Mr. Goodrum was born June 29, 1944 in Iredell County to Jasper F. Goodrum, Jr. and Virginia Dare Fritts Goodrum. Mr. Goodrum served in the National Guard. He was a graduate of Lexington High School and attended Louisburg College, where he played basketball. He retired from Lexington Furniture Industries, where he served as director of finishing. Marlet was a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ, and served on the church consistory and as a Deacon. He served in the National Guard and was an avid Tarheel fan. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith Goodrum of the home; his daughter, Amanda Whittington of Lexington; his sister, Ann Lippard and husband, Jim of Lexington; his brother, Felix Goodrum and wife, Denise, of Roanoke, VA; his beloved grandsons, Chase and Jacob Whittington; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Reformed United Church of Christ, 330 N. Church St., Lexington NC 27292.
