Marquehetta Vance Burris, 74, of Lexington, NC, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025. She was born on November 18, 1950, in the beautiful mountains of Boone, NC, to the late Dorothy Harmon, her dearest mother.
Marquehetta was a woman whose heart was as generous as it was loving. She adored her family and found her greatest joy in being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether she was watching a NASCAR race, cheering for her favorite football team, or relaxing in the mountains or on the beach, she embraced life’s simple pleasures with gratitude and grace.
Known for her selfless nature, Marquehetta always put others before herself. She was deeply devoted to her faith and her church family at Stoner’s Grove Baptist Church, where she developed countless friendships that enriched her life. She also cherished her many work friends, with whom she shared laughter, memories, and the occasional vacation adventure.
She is survived by her beloved children, Julie Littleton (Jeff) and David “Shannon” Miller; grandchildren, Cody Littleton, Peyton Littleton (Isabelle), and Skye Miller; great-grandchildren, Emma Littleton and Jake Miller; and many adored nieces and nephews, including Pam Crotts (Gary), Ricky Moretz (Pam), Michael Harmon, Eddie Harmon, and Christy Harris. She is also survived by her dear best friend, Peggy Conrad, and her brother-in-law, JD Moretz.
Marquehetta was preceded in death by her loving mother, her husband and soulmate Hoyle “Bud” Burris, and her sister Phyllis Moretz.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Stoner’s Grove Baptist Church starting at 3 pm, in Lexington, NC. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember the life of a woman who gave so much of herself to others and whose love will forever live on in their hearts.
