Marshall Dae Nance, 74, of Mill Stream Lane, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Hinkle Hospice House. A graveside service will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Lexington City Cemetery, with Arnetta Dula Beverly officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Mr. Nance was born October 7, 1941, in Davidson County, to Holland D. Nance and Mildred Wise Nance. He served Davidson County through the Sheriff’s office for 25.5 years as Detention Administrator and retiring after achieving the rank of Major of the Civil Division. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. He continued serving the community as a former member of the Congregational Council, founding member of Davidson County Domestic Violence, former member of the Board of Davidson County Alcoholic Care, former member of the Board of Directors Davidson County Ecumenical Society, former officer of the ministries. Marshall was awarded the 1988 Crime Stoppers Award. He was also a recipient of A. Odell Leonard Award, and a former member of Central Carolina Civitan where he was awarded the Civitan of the year award and had served as Past President. He was a lover of history, genealogy, and received the Davidson County Women’s political Council – Good Guy Award. Mr. Nance was a proud Democrat of Davidson County. He was a former candidate of the Clerk of Superior Court on the Democrat ticket in 1990. He was a former member of the Board of Director’s Animal Center, Inc. He was a proud patron of the Davidson County Humane Society. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Phelps Nance of the home; sister, Elizabeth Nance Leonard and husband James of Lexington; brother-in-law, Donald F. Phelps and wife Sarah of Lexington; nephew, Thomas B. Phelps and wife Jessica and their children, Madison and Riley, of High Point; nieces, Amy Marie Leonard of Lexington, Lori Leonard Mann and husband Eric of Glenn Allen, Va, Ashley Phelps Timberlake and husband Daniel and children, Ella and Mac Timberlake of Lexington; and numerous cousins.
