Martha Black Burkhart, 80, of Ward Curry Road, died this morning, March 31, 2007, at Lexington Health Care after a lengthy illness. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Jerry Moore. After the service, a memorial luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall of Second United Church of Christ, where she was a member. Mrs. Buckhart was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Burkhart, in September 2000; her brothers, David Bruce Black and Richard Black; and her sisters, Kathleen Black, Virginia (Priss) Huffman and Alma Williams. Surviving are two sons, Steve Burkhart and his wife, Judy, and Rusty Burkhart, all of Lexington; three daughters, Anne Beavers and her husband, Bob, of Midway, Kathy Burkhart of the home, and Sarah Tupper and her husband, Tim, of New Port Richey, Fla.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the A. Odell Leonard Scholarship Fund, c/o Second United Church of Christ, 330 N. Church St., Lexington, NC 27292; Life Center of Davidson County, 601 W. Center St., Lexington, NC 27292; ARC of Davidson County, 6 Vance Circle, Lexington, NC 27292; or Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293. There will be no formal family visitation.
