Martha Murray Harris, age 71, of Winston Salem passed away Monday morning (April 20, 2015) at Forsyth Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Thursday at Lexington City Cemetery with Rev. Dwight Cartner officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington from 6-8 pm Wednesday and at other times at the residence.
Martha was born January 27, 1944 in Davidson County to Claude Howe and Mary Virginia Surratt Murray. She was a graduate of Rowan School of Nursing and retired from Medical Park Hospital in Winston Salem after 40 years of nursing. She was a member of Oak Forest United Methodist Church. Martha was an accomplished seamstress and an enthusiastic shopper and traveler; was an avid dog lover and a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, John Wiley Harris in 2013.
She is survived by her daughter, Emily Marshall Harris of Hickory, NC; son, David Claude Harris of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Dawson and Abigail Harris; sister, Betty Thomas of High Point; sister-in-law, Bonzie Everson (Richard) of Salisbury; brother-in-law, Ronald Harris (Carol) of Chapel Hill; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dashshund Chloe.
