Martha Leonard Slabach

November 16, 1940 — December 6, 2024

Martha Leonard Slabach, 84, of Lexington, NC, entered into eternal rest on December 6, 2024. Born on November 16, 1940, in Lexington, NC, she was the cherished daughter of the late Lake Dale Leonard and Helen Beck Leonard.

Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend who touched countless lives with her kindness, warmth, and love. She was the beloved wife of Carl Dean Slabach, with whom she shared 60 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.

Martha is survived by her two children, Gary Franklin Slabach (wife Nicole) and Shelley Slabach Carlton; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her brothers Tommy, Klynt, and David Leonard. She was preceded in death by her brothers Bryce, Austin, and Charles Leonard.

A dedicated and nurturing educator, Martha retired from the Davidson County School System after 30 years of service as an elementary school teacher. She had an extraordinary love for children and a passion for helping them grow and flourish. Her students, colleagues, and the families she worked with will forever remember her impact on their lives.

Martha found joy in her church family at Center Church of Welcome, where she expressed her unwavering faith and love for others. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and like family, a testament to her generous spirit and compassionate heart. She delighted in cooking, arts and crafts, and tending to her beautiful flowers.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Center Church of Welcome, at 3:00 pm conducted by Pastor Mitch Wilson. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m., before the service in Christian Fellowship Center.

Donations can be made in Martha's memory to Center Church of Welcome (186 Center Church Road, Lexington, NC 27295) or Hospice of Davidson County (200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292).

Martha's love, faith, and generosity will remain a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
