Martha Wagner Ward, formerly of Ridge Road in Lexington, who was the beloved wife of Charles Joseph Ward Sr., who preceded her in death, died peacefully in her sleep Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Springwood Care Center following an extended illness. She was 91 years young.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Pilgrim Reformed Church, where she was a lifelong member, by the Rev. George Fidler. She was also the organist and pianist and sang in the choir for many years.
Mrs. Ward was born in Lexington to Joe Vaughn Sr. and Mittie Elizabeth Wagner, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by five children, Charles Joseph Ward Jr. and his wife, Shelia, of Lexington, Elizabeth "Betsy" W. Roland and her husband, Bill, of Rolesville, N.C., Marijeanne Joslin of Griffin, Ga., Martha Diane Wessell of Clemmons and Timothy Andrew Ward and his wife, Becky, of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren, William Roland and his wife, Maria, Bradley Roland, Monika Ward, Mari-Margaret "Maggie" Wessell, Robin Joslin Nichols and her husband, Jeff, and Jeanette, Faith, Joseph and Joshua Joslin; two great-granddaughters, Sydney and Kyndall Roland; a sister, Mrs. Jean Wagner; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel, and other times at the home of her son, Charles, on Shamrock Drive.
