Martin Henry Smith

Martin Henry Smith Sr., 86, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 10:15 p.m., following a period of hospice care.

Born December 26, 1939, in Morehead City, North Carolina, Martin lived a life marked by faith, family, and a remarkable gift for working with his hands. A man of deep faith, Martin was a Christian and faithful follower of Christ.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Martin served his country with honor and carried that same sense of duty and strength throughout his life. He was known far and wide for his ability to fix or build just about anything, there was rarely a problem he couldn’t solve or a project he couldn’t bring to life with his own two hands.

Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife, Faye, shared 66 years of marriage, a partnership built on faith, love, and steadfast commitment.

Martin is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Linda Faye Smith; his daughter, April Coggins, and her husband, Stan Coggins; his son, Marty Smith, and his wife, Leigh Smith; and his four grandsons, whom he loved dearly, Phillip Coggins, Brandon Coggins, Hunter Smith, and Hayden Smith.

In keeping with his wishes, Martin will be cremated, and no formal service will be held. The family asks instead that he be remembered in the everyday ways that meant the most to him.

Memorial contributions may be made in Martin’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause close to the heart of a man who proudly served his country.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Davidson County for their compassionate care during this time.
