Marvin Donald Deal

Marvin Donald Deal, 86, of Lynda Lane, Lexington (Welcome Community) passed away Friday morning at his home. A graveside service will be held 2 pm Monday at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Dr. John Beeg officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel, and at other times, at the home on Lynda Lane. Marvin was born in Rowan County, July 28, 1928, to Ray Gilbert and Georgia Harrington Deal. He was a retired employee of Southern Railway in Winston Salem. He was a veteran of the US Army-Air Corp which later became the Air Force, and served as a photo reconnaissance photographer flying missions over Eastern Russia, North Korea and Vietnam while stationed in Japan. He was a professional baseball player as a pitcher in AA ball for the Pittsburg Pirates. He was very active in baseball for children for many years in the Welcome Community. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carrie Sue Deal; daughter-in-law, Dorothy A. Deal; brother, Gary G. Deal, sister, Martha Deal Barrineau. Surviving are his daughter, Ann Deal Lawson (Marvin) of Welcome; sons, D. Reid Deal and girlfriend Melissa Graham of Welcome and William “Scott” Deal and girlfriend Shannon Parks of Lexington; grandchildren, Thad Allen, Donnie Deal, Stephanie Lawson and Shannon Lawson; seven great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Katelyn and Triston Allen, Jordan, Olivia, Kezlie Deal and Taylor Lawson; brother, Glenn Deal (Peggy) of Rockwell; and sisters, Claudine Artz of Rockwell and Barbara Chesson of Lexington.
