Marvin "Jack" Jackson Blackburn, Jr.

February 4, 1929 — February 6, 2010

Marvin Jackson “Jack” Blackburn, Jr., age 81 of Delta Street, Lexington passed away Saturday morning (February 6, 2010) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday (February 10, 2010) at Second United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Joe Coltrane officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with honors.   The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday night and at other times at home.   Jack was born in Davidson County, February 4, 1929 to Marvin Jackson Blackburn, Sr. and Mamie Everhart Blackburn.  He was a member of Second United Church of Christ, men’s Sunday school class, served on the Consistory, a former deacon and elder and was very active in the archives and library of the church. He was a Mason and member of Lexington Memorial Lodge 473. He was a veteran, serving in the US Army as a Military Policeman and was a member of American Legion Post 8. During his 32 year career with the Lexington Police Department, he served as a detective, Major, interim Police Chief for one year and at the time of his retirement he was assistant Police Chief.  He enjoyed working with wood and refinishing wood furniture and had a love of photography, which he enjoyed as a hobby as well as in his detective work.   Surviving are; his wife of 59 years, Nancy Haynes Blackburn of the home; two daughters, Angela Nell Dewbrew and husband George of Lexington and Pamela Kay Butler and husband Todd of Leland, NC; one son, Marvin Carl Blackburn of Ellicott City, MD; one granddaughter, Enya Lee Butler; two sisters, Audrey Cox and Evelyn Carrick both of Pensacola, FL.   Memorials should be directed to Second United Church of Christ, Food Pantry, 330 North Church Street, Lexington, NC  27292     Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
