Marvin Austin Welch

Marvin Austin Welch Jr., 82, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Hospice of Davidson County. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Welch was born February 28, 1941, in South Carolina, to Charlie Austin Welch and Frances Elizabeth Wright Sherfield. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Creolla Kinney Welch; his stepfather, Joseph “Red” Sherfield; one brother, Jimmy Blanchard; and one sister, Alice Gates. Left to cherish his memory are three sons, Marvin Welch Jr. of Kernersville, Rusty Welch (Julie) of Lexington, and Jimmy Welch of Lexington; one daughter, Debbie Welch Manzoor (Jon Thompson) of Kernersville; five sisters, Mary Payne of Iron Station, Janice Atkins (Gene) of Grover, Patty Eller (Jack) of Vale, Joann Surgeon of Lincolnton, and Linda Keen of Lexington; ten grandchildren, Brandon, Zachary, Walker, Annie, Molly, Marvin Austin III, Blake, Nina, Austin, and Sierra; and nine great-grandchildren.
