Mary Arlene Smith, 98, of E. Holly Grove Road, died Sunday, February 09 at Brookstone Retirement Center.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, by the Rev. Darrell Sluder. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Tuesday in the church Parlor.
Miss Smith was born January 2, 1916 in Davidson County to William Carl smith and Hattie Bell Crotts Smith and the second child of eight—five boys and three girls. She attended Burkhart School and then Davis Townsend where she graduated in 1934. She worked for Nokmis Mills and Erlanger Mills and ended her work life with Dixie Furniture Company after Erlanger ceased operations. Arlene was a lifetime member of Mt. Tabor Church and was devoted to the mission of the church that was founded by ancestors of both the Crotts and Smith families. She dedicated her talents to making it a community of faithful members. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers, Artis Smith, J. Baxter Smith, W. Colen Smith and her sisters, Virgie Smith and Mildred Beck.
She is survivied by her brothers, Edmund Smith and Boyd Smith and wife Kathleen, both of Lexington.
