Mary Owens Bevan, 84, of Davidson County, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at her home.
Memorial service information will be provided once available.
Mary was born on January 11, 1942, in Davidson County, to the late James Clay Owens and Louise Kiger Owens.
Mary lived a life marked by quiet dedication, steady service, and a genuine love for others. She devoted more than 30 years of her career to working on the production line at Duracell, where her strong work ethic and reliability earned the respect of those around her. Beyond her profession, Mary’s heart was deeply rooted in her community. For over four decades, she faithfully volunteered with the Special Olympics, serving in many roles and continuing to attend events even into the final year of her life. She found particular joy in coaching, especially in bocce and swimming, where she encouraged and uplifted every athlete she worked with.
Mary was also a lifetime member, founding participant, and dedicated leader of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, reflecting her commitment to service and fellowship. Known for her warm spirit and welcoming nature, she formed lasting friendships wherever she went. Her home was a place of comfort and care, not only for her family but for many others who were embraced as part of it. Above all, Mary’s life was defined by her generosity, her steadfast presence, and the deep and abiding love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, of 55 years, Ronald Welch Bevan; her brothers, Gene and Roger Owens; her son, Danny Bevan; and daughter, Sherry Gobble.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Charlene Mabe (Mark), Gay Hegler (Scott); her grandchildren, Tina Benton (Nick), Jennifer Bevan (Scott), Britnie Holt (Jeff), Scott Hegler Jr., Samantha Cheves (Ty), Michael Phillips, Larry Phillips, John Mabe (Carrie), Amanda Hughes (Jay); her great-grandchildren, Courtney, Katelyn, Bentley, Carlie, Layla, Autumn, Aubrey, Landon, Daniel, Serenity, and a host of beloved step-great-grandchildren; her brother Larry Owens; and her lifelong best friend, Eva. Her family would like to extend a special thanks to life long friend Greg Nard.
