Mary Hilbourn Britt, 87, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 24, 2026, prior to the service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Born in North Carolina, Mary was the daughter of the late John Hilbourn and Letha Edwards Hilbourn. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and caring spirit touched everyone who knew her. Mary had a true gift for making a house feel like home and found great joy in caring for her family throughout her life.
Mary enjoyed many hobbies that reflected her warm and creative nature. She had a true green thumb and loved gardening and tending to her flowers. She was also well known for her cooking and baking, especially her delicious coconut cakes that became a favorite among family and friends. In her quiet moments, Mary enjoyed quilting, creating treasured pieces that will continue to be cherished for years to come.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willis James Britt; her son, James Britt; and her brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Robbie Britt (Charlotte); daughter-in-law, Karen Britt; her sister, Rebecca Burch; her cherished grandson, Cameron Britt (Jessica); and her adored great-grandchildren, Cyrus and Lydia. Her family was the center of her life, and she loved each of them deeply.
Mary will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to her family, and the warmth and comfort she brought to those around her.
