Mary Elizabeth Hunt Bullard, 83, formerly of Lingle Farm Road in Lexington, NC, and Partridge Road in Wilmington, NC, died peacefully Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville, NC. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Forest Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Henry Waterson officiating. Mary was born on February 15, 1941 in Lexington, NC to David Clifford Hunt and Edna Baldwin Hunt. She married on March 14, 1964 and was blessed with 52 years of marriage to Billy Reeves Bullard. Both are survived by son David Fletcher Bullard of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, son Brian Richard Bullard and his other half Heidi Ann Ecker of Alexandria, Virginia. Mary is also survived by loving sisters, Carol Epley of a Yadkinville, North Carolina and sister-in-law Martha Hunt of Lexington, North Carolina. Mary was predeceased by her brother David Gerald "Jerry" Hunt and brother-in-law Glenn Epley. Mary worked as a nurse for 21 years and earned a Bachelor of Science (honorary) from Gardner Webb College in 1982. She served as a staff nurse at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina, a surgical nurse for a private physician in Wilmington, North Carolina, and emergency department staff and charge nurse at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was listed as a noteworthy critical care nurse by Marquis Who's Who.
Mary was an active member of her church community. She served as the first female deacon of Masonboro Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC, and was a member of the Reeds Baptist Church in Lexington, NC. Mary also served as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Lexington, NC.
