Mary Byerly Hanes, 92, of Old Salisbury Road, went to meet her heavenly father on July 2, 2011 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington after an extended illness.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Tyro United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Randy Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Byerly Cemetery at Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington, and other times at the home.
Mary was born June 5, 1919 in Davidson County to J.W. and Annie Leonard Byerly. She was a graduate of Churchland High School and was the oldest living member of Tyro United Methodist Church. She was an employee of North Carolina Finishing Company, a division of Fieldcrest Industries for 57 years. Her husband, Abner Lanford Hanes, preceded her in death in 1999. Her brothers, Bill Byerly, John Byerly, Ben Byerly, and Boyce Byerly, and sisters, Grace Cope, Ester Berrier, Liddie Miller, Lucy Jacobs, and Opleen Weaver, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Shoaf and husband, Mack, of Midway; one grandson, Todd Shoaf and wife, Rosa, of Midway; one granddaughter, Elizabeth (Sissy) White and husband, Lindley, of Wilmington; two great-grandchildren, Dania and Loucas of Midway; and two sisters, Lila Childress of Salisbury and Sadie Hampton of Linwood.
