Mary Catherine Mcintyre Rodgers

April 2, 1923 — February 22, 2016

Mary Catherine McIntyre Rodgers, of Lexington and Piedmont Crossings, Thomasville, NC passed away peacefully on February 22, 2016. Mary Catherine was born in Raleigh, NC, grew up in Charlotte, NC, and graduated from Meredith College, with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She married her high school sweetheart, Nisbet Pharr Rodgers, and became his close lifelong partner, helping him in the development of Mid-State Ceramic Tile Co., traveling extensively, and raising four children. Mary Catherine will be especially remembered for her positive, caring and generous spirit– reaching out to newcomers, writing letters, being active in the First Presbyterian Church, and surrounding both family and friends with her loving nature. She was truly a mother to so many. Mary Catherine is survived by siblings: Elizabeth Joyce Rudisill, of Davidson NC, and Fred Headen McIntyre, of Thomasville and Lexington, NC. She is also survived by her four children: Cathey Overton Rodgers, of Union SC (husband David Lawson Sloan); Pamela Flowe Rodgers, of Athens GA; Mary McIntyre Rodgers, of Columbia MD (husband W. Phillip Webster); and Nisbet Pharr Rodgers, Jr., of Greensboro, NC. Mary Catherine had four much-loved grandchildren: Meredeth M. Tucker, Villa Rica GA (husband Charles Andrew Tucker, Jr.); Thomas Paul Sloan, Union, SC; Cathlene Rodgers Webster, Chapel Hill, NC; and Neilsen Rodgers Webster, Columbia MD. She had one great grandson, Donovan James Markle, Villa Rica, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Mary Catherine lived out the last years of her life at Piedmont Crossings, in Thomasville NC, where she helped many, and received much loving care from both the Piedmont staff and Hospice. A celebration of her special life is planned for April 9th, at 3pm, at Piedmont Crossing Unity Place Chapel, in Thomasville, NC.
