Mary Elizabeth Cope Smith, 67, of Yates Road, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at her home after several years of declining health. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. John Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.Mrs. Smith was born June 21, 1944, in Escambia County, Fl., to John Gilmer Cope and Eloise Merrit Cope. She was employed at Lamp Crafters in Denton and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Cope.
Surviving are husband, Jimmy R. Smith of the home; daughters, Deborah Sizemore and husband, Darrin, of Winston-Salem, and Lisa Chantler of the home; her mother, Eloise Merrit Cope of Lexington; stepdaughters, Stacey Smith and Tiffany Smith, both of Lexington; three grandchildren, Shelby Sizemore, John-Michael Roger Hutchins and Teri Elizabeth Hutchins; five great-grandchildren; mother of Lexington; brother, Timothy Cope of Linwood; sister, Janet Milstead and husband, Gene, of Linwood; half brother, John Carver of California; and father-in-law, Richard Smith of Tyro.
